Industry Baggage Changes
With the expiry of traditional baggage standards (Weight and Piece Systems, IATA Baggage Resolutions 300 and 301) at the end of March 2011, a new baggage rule selection criteria, IATA Baggage Resolution 302, became effective on 01 April 2011. From April 2011 PAT General Rules book the selection criteria can be found published in paragraphs 3.3 to 3.4. Likewise, clarifications and examples concerning the interpretation of the US DOT Reservations are also included. During the first phase of the automation of baggage rules, most Global Distribution Systems offer carriers' free baggage allowance. However, excess baggage charges will have to be developed at a later stage. Consequently, the Passenger Air Tariff welcomes carrier contributions to this chapter.
